Back on that blogging bullshit

I've been meaning to do a regular-ish blog for a few years now, turns out the arsehole of 2025 may be where it starts.

So what's the name about?

It's a dumb play on words, and reference to my online handle: topperfalkon

I'm not wedded to it, but you can't start a blog site without a name and until inspiration hits my appalling wit will just have to do

What am I blogging about?

Mostly the urge to blog has been connected to wanting to talk a lot about Star Wars, plus some professional-adjacent ranting, so there'll definitely be some Star Wars content (I plan to blog a Star Wars "marathon") soon, definitely a bit of tech. Also probably a fair bit on gaming as it's a big hobby and whilst not my industry there's a bit of an overlap that I could explore. Probably some other general media stuff I find interesting other than just Star Wars. And maybe politics and other news stuff if I can find something relevant to say.

Unless explicitly noted, my posts will largely be personal opinon. Anything I consider professional opinion I'll note, and these posts will be more likely to have things like sources and citations. All blog posts are always my opinion and not that of past, current, or future employers, unless explicitly stated.

But why a blog?

Well, because sometimes platforms like Bluesky and the cursed place are too much effort for long-form content. I also want practice at longer form content for personal reasons and possibly professional growth reasons too. As you can tell from this intro post, the tone and style is a bit all over the place!

Why Ghost?

Medium is dead, Substack has questionable morals and tries to shove other creators content down your throat if you sign up.

Additionally, both Medium and Substack tie you somewhat to their platform, whereas although I'm using Ghost Pro for the time being for convenience, I can always run the open source version of Ghost and host this blog there should I decide.

And yeah I'm not looking at Wordpress because every time I've used it in the past it's sucked to work with.

Ghost newsletters seem pretty neat too, though if I somehow get more than a thousand sign-ups I'll run into issues with the hosted version, so we'll see?

I'm not planning on any paid memberships for this blog because honestly there's better ways for you to spend your money than reading my rambling, and I don't want the hassle of an additional income stream, or the obligation to post to any given frequency to make it worthwhile

A final note on blogging

The other main benefit of a blog like this instead of a Bluesky thread (or similar) is it's a lot easier for me to go back and edit or delete posts that were dumb, cringe, outright wrong, or a combination of all three. I haven't got a set 'policy' in mind for this yet, but hey maybe that'll be a future correction to this post?

So, that's it for the intro. Have a call to action if you fancy seeing more of my words sometime
